A Day at the Races: Bath Racecourse

Horse racing is the sport of kings. It is the truest combination of man and beast as they work together to conquer hardships and battle to come out on top.

Whether a participant in the sport or merely spectator, an avid fan or a casual observer, it's easy to get wrapped up in this majestic world. If you live in Bath or you're about to visit the area, then Bath Racecourse is worth the visit.

Located on Lansdown Hill, just over three miles north-east of Bath in Somerset, the racecourse is a thoroughbred racing venue. It is a left-handed oval track that measures one mile, four furlongs and 25 yards. It is Britain's highest flat racecourse, at 780 feet above sea level. Horse racing dates back to the area to 1728 but the first meet at the track was in 1811. The track would become more and more popular, going from one two-day event a year to today, were twenty-two events are held annually. Recently, the track has undergone major work to improve it. The track and the parade ring were redesigned and at bar was opened. The new Langtree Grandstand has various facilities such as a roof garden that can be booked for events.

The track has various races going on throughout the year. There are currently no events being held until April when the Good Friday races occur as well as the Spring Evening Races. On April 14th, you can enjoy seven races to celebrate the Easter weekend with your friends and family. One week later, the Spring Evening Races will also feature seven races. If you're one for a bet, you can check out Betway for the early odds when they're available and have a flutter.

The course is easy to access by Junction 18 on the M4 motorway, bus services operate on race days directly to the racecourse, London Paddington and the South Wales line provides train access and helicopters can land at the venue with proper arrangements. It's £15 for a ticket to the grandstand, £22 for the roof garden, £10 for the centre enclosure, £65 for the restaurant and fine dining experience and £59 for shared hospitality. Under 18s are admitted for free. The hospitality suites require fine dress while shared hospitality is smart casual. Picnics are encouraged and only guide dogs are admitted. You can keep up with news and events here.

Whether your are there for a race, a picnic, a private event, Ladies Day or whatever, then Bath racecourse can be the grand day out you and your family deserve.
