Bath announces plans for new stadium!

Bath Rugby announced plans for the redevelopment of the Recreation Ground. The plans will see a significant boost in capacity as well as a regeneration of the riverside in the city centre.

The Recreation Ground has been the home of Bath Rugby for over 125 years and the new developments will see it survive long into the future.

Bath Rugby's statement on the planning application:

A new Stadium for Bath will deliver an exceptional, fit-for-purpose and modern home for Bath Rugby at the Recreation Ground, the spiritual home of the rugby club for over 125 years.

The plans also include the regeneration of the riverside in the heart of the city, the creation of significant sporting and community benefits for all, whilst ensuring that the Club continues to contribute considerably to the city’s economy for decades to come.

The plans for the new stadium include:

  • 18,000-capacity stadium with significantly enhanced accessibility provisions
  • Contemporary and sensitive design
  • New hybrid pitch increasing community and amateur use
  • Regenerated riverside including the new Spring Gardens Walk
  • Retention of mature trees, as well as further landscaping and bio-diversity measures
  • A host of sustainability measures to support a target of net zero operational carbon
  • Riverside café/restaurant, Club shop and museum for non-matchday use

On the plans for the new stadium Bath Rugby CEO Tarquin McDonald said:

We are absolutely delighted to have submitted our proposals. This is the culmination of many years of collaboration, listening and refining, which we now believe delivers the world-class facility that Bath Rugby and the wider city deserves. We are excited to share our vision with all and would ask people to review the proposals via the B&NES planning portal and ultimately support them.

Bath's future looks bright and fans should be excited to see the home of Bath Rugby and the city as a whole get a big lift. Bath Rugby are in action this weekend against Northampton so make sure to check in at Total Guide To Bath to see a full round-up of all the weekend's sporting action.
