Bath Triathlete Scoops Silver Medal

The Bath sporting scene is famous for its sports men and women, competing across many disciplines. This week has seen further cause for celebration as local triathlete Paul Ransome secured a silver medal at the Challenge Weymouth Iron distance triathlon 2015.

The triathlon stood as part of the European Long Distance Championships which took place on Sunday 13th September.

The iron distance triathlon event consists of a gruelling 3.8k sea swim, followed by a 112 mile run and a full marathon to finish.

For the 33 year old Bath based personal trainer and founder of Vibe Fitness, this was his first official race as part of the GB Age-Group Triathlon Team.

Reflecting on his achievement, Paul said: "Finishing in just under 10 hours was my goal and despite the typically British bad weather I managed a personal best of 9:57:27.

“I was delighted with that time, but to take the silver medal in my first race for Great Britain was even better" said Paul.

“I was so proud I drove two hours back to Weymouth the following day with very sore legs to attend the awards ceremony. All the hours of training were worth it and I would like to give thanks to everyone who supported me, especially my wife and children,” he added.

Paul, who is a fully qualified triathlon coach, is now training for the European Championships which take place in Austria next August, and hopes to qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in 2017.

He and the Vibe Fitness team are launching a new Urban Endurance club in October ready for the 2016 season, focusing on swim technique, coached running sessions and bike conditioning. Interested athletes should contact Vibe Fitness on 01225 571616 for more information.
