Chippenham Tri Club Reflects On Successful Year
With the 2015 triathlon season now at a close, Chippenham Tri look back at a hugely successful year. Since the club’s formation in 2014, the club has grown to over 40 members, and has established an environment where experienced and novice triathletes can develop, thrive and enjoy the rapidly growing sport of triathlon.
This is especially evident at the club’s Monday night swim session: “There is a real buzz with 20 swimmers of all abilities across 5 lanes. We’ve seen some amazing progress from members who could hardly swim 25m” stated Club Chairman Chris Maxwell.
The foundation of coached training sessions, has translated into impressive performances in races this year, with the distinctive orange and blue kit so visible in local events. Over the season 35 adults and 10 children have raced for Chippenham Tri in 2015. This year, the club established a ‘Championship’, a series of local events to focus member’s participation. “We are delighted to announce the inaugural winners of the Club Championship as Lynsey Carpenter and Michael Bright”, Robert Field, Club Racing Coordinator stated. Rob went on to say “Both winners absolutely demonstrate the ethos of the championship, representing the club with pride, and showing massive progression through essentially their first full seasons in triathlon.”
In addition to the 23 triathlon debuts this year, and five members completing the ultimate triathlon challenge - an Ironman, the club also achieved some awesome results at International level. Neil Lewis came16th in the European middle distance Age Group Championships in Rimini; Chris Maxwell 31st in the Olympic distance Age Group World Championships in Chicago; Richard Schofield 39th in the World half ironman 70.3 Age Group Championships in Austria; and Peter Cusick was 2nd in the European Duathlon Age Group Championships.
So what does 2016 have in store? From the development of the coaching team, to the growth in participation races of all distances and levels. From the continued growth of the tristars children’s club, to organizing a junior triathlon. The future looks bright, the future’s orange, and blue!
