Danny Grewcock set to leave Bath Rugby
Bath Rugby have today confirmed Academy Director, Danny Grewcock, will be leaving the Club at the end of the season to take up the role of Director of Sport at Oundle School, a leading independent school in Northamptonshire.
Since retiring in 2011, the former Bath Rugby, England and British and Irish Lions second-row has significantly developed the Bath Rugby Academy, turning it into one of the highest rated academies in the country. The likes of Ollie Devoto, Tom Ellis, Charlie Ewels and Tom Dunn have all come through the Academy to earn first team contracts under Grewcock’s watch, whilst Max Clark, Adam Hastings and Beno Obano have all stepped-up and put in strong senior performances this season.
“I’ve had an unbelievable time at Bath – both as a player and in the role of Academy Director,” said Grewcock.
“I have learnt a great deal over the last five years, worked with some fantastic people, and it is with a heavy heart that I am leaving. However, I feel now is the right time to take on a new challenge, and the role at Oundle School and the new environment will provide that.
“I feel strongly about helping develop young athletes, and am thankful that I have the opportunity to continue doing this in a new environment. With the hard work and dedication delivered by the Academy staff, I have seen some very talented young players come through the Academy system, and will watch with great interest as they continue their careers.”
Tarquin McDonald, Bath Rugby Managing Director, added: “Danny has brought an incredible amount to the development of our Academy system, making sure that the young talent in our catchment area is not only helped on the field, but also off it.
"It goes without saying what an integral character he has been to the Club over his many years here. We wish him all the very best with this new chapter in his career, and look forward to welcoming him back to the Rec in the future.”
