Ellis Makes The Step Up To Bath Rugby Seniors With New Contract
Second row Tom Ellis has renewed his contract with Bath Rugby, in a move that sees the former England U20 lock make the step up from the Academy to the senior squad from the 2016/17 season.
Ellis, 21, made his senior debut last season in the European Rugby Champions Cup, appearing in back-to-back matches against Glasgow Warriors and Toulouse.
He has gone on to make ten senior appearances – including four this season – catching the eye with both his physicality and impressive work rate.
Academy Director, Danny Grewcock, said: "Tom is a fantastic athlete who has developed remarkably well. He’s not looked out of place when playing for the first team, and I’m sure he’ll keep working hard on his all-round game and that we’ll see more of him in the future.”
"We’ve been impressed by Tom’s character for a long time," Bath Rugby Head Coach, Mike Ford, added.
"He’s really benefited from the culture of our Academy system and he’s a big lad who will cause the opposition no end of trouble. We look forward to seeing his continued progression here at the Club.”
Ellis, who stands at 6ft 4in and has represented England at u20 level, will now pit his abilities against experienced fellow second rows, including the likes of Dominic Day, Dave Attwood, Stuart Hooper and Charlie Ewels.
