Gill insists side 'had a right good go' in defeat to Torquay

Boss Jerry Gill insisted there was “no lack of effort” as Bath City fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Torquay United.

Soloman Wanjau-Smith’s second-half strike proved consolation for the Romans as they were downed by first-half strikes from the Gulls at Twerton Park.

Former Bath City striker Cody Cooke opened the scoring for the Gulls before defender Ed Palmer added a second after 64 minutes for Paul Wotton’s team.

But Gill was keen to praise his charges for their efforts, in front of a bumper attendance of 2,259.

Gill told Bath City’s official YouTube channel: “I’ll give credit to Paul and to Torquay, they came with a game plan and they won the game in the first 20, 25 minutes I guess.

“We were trying to get back in and we had a right good go, there’s no lack of effort, there’s no lack of commitment and enough balls going in the box. We couldn’t quite get it done.”

Defeat left Bath with three points from their opening three National League South games.
