Great Britain track debut ends in gold for Jenny Nesbitt
University of Bath sporting scholar Jenny Nesbitt added to her growing medal collection by winning both gold and bronze at the European 10,000m Cup in Mersin, Turkey on Sunday.
On her track debut for Great Britain, Nesbitt ran 33:45.46 – just a couple of seconds shy of her personal best – to secure third place in the individual rankings behind Turkey’s Esma Aydemir and Italy’s Rosaria Console.
Fellow Brits Lauren Deadman and Louise Small finished seventh and 12th respectively, meaning GB finished top of the team rankings.
Nesbitt, who is coached by David Walker, is completing the first year of her Sport & Social Science course and is supported by a Trendell Sports Scholarship.
Nesbitt headed to Turkey on the back of setting a new personal best of 33:43.19 lasst week at the Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs on Parliament Hill in London.
She won 5,000m gold for the University of Bath at the BUCS Outdoor Championships earlier in May and was on the podium for Great Britain at both the European Cross Country Championships and World University Cross Country Championships during the winter.
