Leon Reid's Race To Rio 2016

Bath based athlete Leon Reid has his eyes firmly set on the 2016 Rio Olympic games, aiming to smash his 200 metres qualifying time and realise his dream of competing on the grandest stage of all.

The athlete is on the pursuit of funding to fulfil his Olympic quest after his funding in the previous year was drastically cut. He is now seeking to raise around £15,000 to cover the costs of food, medical supplies, nutrition, travel and full time training.

Leon grew up with his older brother in foster care, moving between various homes in Bath, Bristol, Gloucestershire and Wolverhampton.

When he was 15, he left foster care to move into a halfway house. It was at this time that he discovered sprinting. He surprised everyone in his very first competition as, after just one week of training, he went on to win two gold medals and one silver in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump.

In 2012 Leon moved to train with coach James Hillier at Bath University and was invited to represent Great Britain in the 100m and the 4x100m at the European Youth Olympics in Trabzon Turkey.

He returned from his debut appearance on the international arena as a double silver medal winner. Since then he has gone on to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland a number of times, gained many International medals, and trained with some of the fastest men in history such as Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake. This energy, enthusiasm, and belief in himself has led Leon to this Olympic dream.

‘Since the very start, this sport has given me purpose, drive and ambition’, Leon said. "It has completely changed my life for the better and I have not looked back once. I went from playing football down the park to representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland in front of millions of people live on TV.

"I want to do this for the rest of my life. I want to be the fastest and the best. So, after five years in training, I am aiming for the 2016 Rio Olympics with Team GB," he added.
