Elliot Daly's dramatic try four minutes from time earned England their 16th straight win under the popular Eddie Jones and it also means the Red Rose have two wins from two in this Six Nations campaign.
The Grand Slam holders found themselves behind are just two minutes however when Leigh Halfpenny scored an early penalty to give Wales a 3-0 lead in Cardiff.
On the 10-minute mark though Owen Farrell responded with a penalty of his own to make the score 3-3.
England scored the first try soon after when Ben Youngs made his way over the try line but Farrell was unable to convert.
Wales soon made him regret that - they first made it 6-8 with a 22nd-minute Halfpenny penalty and, two minutes before half-time, Wales got over the try line.
Liam Williams broke through the English defence and crossed over the line to make it 11-8 and Halfpenny converted to add the extra two points.
Farrell reduced the deficit 16 minutes into the second half with another penalty but on the hour mark Wales had a five-point lead again after a third Halfpenny penalty.
With 10 minutes to go Farrell kicked through the posts for 16-14 and a nervy finish ensued.
It was England that won the game though through Daly's dramatic late try in the corner.
