Rising hockey stars take on students at University of Bath

Some of the most talented young hockey players in the country visited the Sports Training Village over the weekend to find out more about the hockey programme at the University of Bath.

During their visit, the teenagers from London-based Kingston Grammar School – regular winners of the National Schools Championships – got to take on a University XI on the Sitec water-based pitch, winning 3-2, as well as have a tour of the campus facilities.

Kingston are the latest leading hockey school to visit the University, with Derbyshire-based Repton having been twice in the past 18 months while pupils from Whitgift School in Croydon will attend in February.

Nick Kendall, Hockey Development Manager at the University of Bath, said: “It is important for us to build these relationships with schools. It makes youngsters planning their university careers aware of Bath as a hockey destination and allows them to see what we have to offer.

“It was a pleasure to welcome [coach] Mike Williamson and his team to the University. They were a talented group of players with plenty of potential and we hope they enjoyed their visit.”
