Rising Team Bath Buccaneers hockey stars all set for first senior England caps
University of Bath sporting scholar Peter Scott and fellow Team Bath Buccaneers player Liam Sanford will gain their first experience of senior international hockey after being named in the England Men’s squad for a four-Test series in South Africa.
Sanford was added to England’s central training programme last month after impressing in trials and is in line to win his first senior cap.
Sport Performance student Scott, supported by a Trendell Sports Scholarship, will also join the team to gain valuable experience of a senior international trip as part of his continued development.
Both Sanford and Scott have represented their country on numerous occasions at U21 level, most recently at the Junior Hockey World Cup in December.
The tour is taking place from March 2-8, with England playing both South Africa and Germany twice as they continue their preparations for this summer’s Hockey World League Semi-Final in London.
England Men’s Head Coach Bobby Crutchley, who formerly held that role with the University of Bath and Team Bath Buccaneers, said: “The trip is a great opportunity to expose the new squad to international matches early in the cycle. With matches against Germany and South Africa it provides an ideal opportunity to start our preparations for the World League semi-final and Europeans later in the year.”
Meanwhile, Team Bath Buccaneers ladies’ club captain Janet Gubbin helped the England Masters team win a bronze medal at the Indoor World Cup in Germany over the weekend.
