Superstars To Lock Horns For Bath Rugby Foundation
The annual Superstars event is set to take place this Saturday, January 9, in order to raise money for Bath Rugby Foundation. Now in its fifth year, the Superstars event sees 20 corporate teams take on 11 gym based disciplines with the help of one ‘Superstar’ per team.
Events include a team row, 20 metre tyre pull, 1000m watt bike challenge, bleep test, basketball shooting and a sprint - of which Olympic sprint relay gold medalist Jason Gardener is the current record holder!
Eager to get involved in the action at Total Guide to Bath, we will be teaming up with Vibe Fitness and Urban Training Systems to compete alongside their team and an allocated 'superstar'.
Each team involved will be given one designated superstar to help with their efforts, which could include a whole host of illustrious names from the world of sport.
Shouting encouragement from the sidelines on the day will be a series of local primary schools, who will be on hand to provide a much needed boost for each individual team once the fatigue and lactic acid begins to kick in.
The Superstars event is held in conjunction with Vibe Fitness Bath, who provide adjudication, support and equipment for the event and competitors.
Co-founder Simon Ridley told Total Sport he cannot wait for the day to arrive, for what is set to be yet another fantastic event.
"It's great to see the event flourish and go from strength to strength each year," said Ridley.
"Last year was uber competitive with army teams coming in and upping the game, but ultimately it's all a bit of fun and anyone can get involved. It's always good fun with plenty of banter and everyone seems to enjoy themselves.
"At Vibe Fitness we work closely with Helena and the Bath Rugby Foundation, and credit must go to all those helpers who assist in putting on a great event.
"We always like to do our bit for local charities and try to give something back to the area. This year we will be entering our team UTS Bath, and each of our participants will be making their own charitable donations. I think we've got a strong team and we'll make a good go of it along with our allocated superstar," Ridley added.
Competing for the UTS Bath team in the Superstars event will be our very own Total Guide to Bath director Liz Hutchings.
Looking forward to the event, Liz said: "I was delighted to have been asked to join Team UTS for this years’ Superstars event.
"Bath Rugby Foundation are a charity which we are always keen to support - we promote their events on the site and run Bath Half for them every year but this is the first time we’ve been hands-on involved with any of their challenges.
"I’m looking forward to the challenges and I’m sure there will be a lot of banter with the other teams! Paul from UTS has been coaching me since November so I should be in okay shape but I just hope I don’t let them down!," Liz added.
The registration fee per team is £250 and the Foundation ask participants to commit to raising an additional £350, by setting up a Virgin Money Giving page.
