Team Bath Hockey Quartet Receive England Call
A quartet of former Team Bath Buccaneers Hockey Club players have been named in the England squad for the EuroHockey Indoor Championships, which start in Portugal on Friday.
George Farrant and Jonny Kinder, both Sports Performance graduates from the University of Bath, are joined in the 12-strong squad by Ed Horler and Toby Reynolds-Cotterill, who came through the Buccaneers’ junior ranks.
They will be looking to help England, coached by Andy Halliday, make an immediate return to the top flight of European indoor hockey following their relegation in 2014.
Former Trendell Sports Scholar Farrant now plays in the German Bundesliga with 2014 European champions Harvestehuder, while Horler was the second-highest scorer in last weekend’s Super 6s Indoor League competition in Kettering.
His haul of 22 goals was only bettered by another former Team Bath Buccaneers player, Tim Davenport. The Coach Education & Sports Development graduate's total of 28 goals included 11 in one game for Wimbledon against Holcombe.
Buccs are competing in Division 1 of the Super 6s and are fourth in the table after four games. After beating Southgate 6-1 and Sheffield 9-4, they came from 3-0 down at half-time to draw 4-4 with Cannock before drawing 3-3 with Brooklands.
The remaining four matches will take place at UWE in Bristol on Saturday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, hockey players who are considering applying to university for the 2015/16 academic year are invited to attend an open day at the University of Bath on Monday, February 29.
Running from 10am-4.30pm, the open day includes a two-hour coaching session with Head Coach Jody Paul and discussions with course tutors where possible.
